Automated method for the colorimetric determination of acyl esters in serum

Arnold Antonis , D. S. Platt , and J. M. Thorp

Medical Unit, St. George's Hospital Medical School, London, and Research Department, Pharmaceuticals Division, Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd., Macclesfield, England

An automated procedure is described for the estimation of serum acyl esters. The method requires the preliminary extraction of serum with isopropanol. The lipid extract is then analyzed automatically by the colorimetric procedure based on the formation of ferric hydroxamates. The influence of a number of factors on the precision of the method is discussed.

Supplementary key words automatic • colorimetric determination • serum • acyl esters • isopropanol extraction • ferric hydroxamate
