New synthesis of (l-1-O-benzylglycerol

A method is described whereby pure levorotatory 1-O-benzylglycerol (d--benzylglycerol according to the Fischer-Baer convention; l-1-O-benzylglycerol in British nomenclature)¹ is synthesized in three steps from the dextrorotatory 3-O-benzylglycerol.
