Representative phtomicrographs of sectinos taken from the proximal aorta of a femal control C57Bl/6 mouse (top) and frmo a femaloe C57BL/6 human apoA-II transgenic mouse that expressed the human protein at a level similar to that in humans (bottom) illustrate the pro-atherogenic effect of human ApoA-II in these animals. This effect was only seen, however, when the transgenic mice were fed a high fat, high holesterol dieet. (See Escolà-Gil et al., p. 457.)
