Photomicrographs of mouse atherosclerotic lesions after immunostaining. Serial sections of a lesion near the aortic origin from an LPL+/-LDLR-/- mouse were subjected to immunostaining using an anti-LPL antibody (top) and an anti-macrophage antibody (bottom). Luminal foam cells generally did not react with the LPL antibody, but LPL was consistently detected in a layered pattern in deeper regions. (See Semenkovich et al., p. 1141.)
