About the Cover

Cover Figure

Electron micrograph of lipid accumulation in THP-1 macrophages incubated for 48 hours with oxidized-LDL. The lipid accumulation primarily occurs in large, swollen lysosomes. These lysosomes are highlighted by the presence of dark, acid-phosphatase reaction product. The lysosomal lipid accumulation is accompanied by a hypertrophy of the Golgi apparatus and trans-Golgi network which also contain acid-phosphatase reaction product. (See Jerome et al., p. 1362.)
