About the Cover

Cover Figure

Trafficking of a fluorescent cholesterol analog (fluoresterol) seen in a cross section of hamster small intestine. Fluoresterol was administered orally to the hamster two hours before preparation of the jejunum for confocal microscopy. The intestinal villi are oriented with their tips pointing toward the upper left of the figure. Fluoresterol is visible within the absorptive epithelial cells lining the surface of the villi, but not within goblet cells or crypts. Magnification approximately 100X. (See Sparrow et al,. p. 1747.)
