About the Cover

Cover Figure

COVER: Electron micrograph of an endoderm cell from the visceral yolk sac of a mid-gestational mouse [embryonic day (E) 13.5], showing moderate-sized nascent VLDL particles (,250œ 400 è in diameter) in the lumen of the rough endoplasmic reticulum (open arrows) and in forming secretory vesicles of the Golgi apparatus (solid arrows). The synthesis and secretion of different sizes and numbers of apolipoprotein Bœcontaining lipoproteins occur in the mouse yolk sac endoderm cells at different developmental time points. At earlier time points (E7.5œ10.5), the nascent VLDL are larger (,300œ800 è) than those at E13.5. Later in gestation (E18.5œ19.5), nascent lipoproteins are smaller and closer in size to IDL/LDL. Magnification, 336,000. (See Terasawa et al., p. 1967.)?
