COVER: Effect of substrate on triacylglycerol content (panels A, C, E) and glycogen content (panels B, D, F) in neonatal cardiomyocytes. To visualize neutral lipids, cells were stained with Oil Red-O. Periodic acid-Schiff reagent was used to detect glycogen (pink staining). Cells were cultured for 48 h in the presence of glucose (A, B), palmitate/oleate mixture (C, D), or a combination of glucose and the fatty acids (E, F). (See van der Lee et al., p. 41.)
