About the Cover

Cover Figure

COVER: A diagrammatic representation of the structure of a type I class A scavenger receptor that illustrates the six domains (top to bottom): 1) cysteine-rich, 2) collagen-like, 3) {alpha}-helical coiled coil, 4) spacer, 5) transmembrane, and 6) cytoplasmic. Sequences in regions 1 and 2 were used to synthesize cRNA for a nuclease protection assay based on published sequences. mRNA from peritoneal macrophages of DBA/2 mice formed protected fragments for both regions. In contrast, only a protected fragment for region 1 was present in mRNA from C57BL/6 mice. Subsequent sequencing demonstrated that there were several base differences in the published sequence of class A scavenger receptor from DBA/2 compared to C57BL. (See Daugherty et al., p. 1568.)
