COVER: Model of the N-terminal 17% of apolipoprotein B (apoB-17) bound
to a nascent VLDL-like particle. The three-dimensional structure of
apoB-17 was created from the crystal structure of lipovitellin using
the program MODELLER. A segment of the surface of a
1,000-
diameter
particle is shown in yellow. The N-terminal
-barrel region of apoB-17 (green) protrudes
from the surface. Regions beyond the
-barrel are involved in the interaction of
apoB-17 with the particle surface. These include part of the
-helical domain (blue) and the
C-terminal
-sheet domain (red) of
apoB-17. Phospholipids are shown in orange. The image on the right is
rotated 90 degrees from that on the left. This figure was created
