COVER: A Shoebill stork (Balaeniceps rex). Bile from this African bird contains significant proportions of the bile acid 16-hydroxychenodeoxycholic acid. This bile acid is also found in a number of herons, but not in other related long-legged wading birds. (See Hagey et al., p. 685.)
