About the Cover
COVER: Proposed model of cholesterol efflux. The first step in cholesterol efflux is interaction of lipid-free apoA-I with plasma membrane, which depends on ability of apoA-I to bind lipid and on ability of cells to release lipid via ABCA1-dependent pathway. The product of the first stage is minimally lipidated discoid particles resembling pre
1-HDL. The second step involves interaction of these particles with regions of plasma membrane, most likely caveolae, with efflux of more cholesterol and formation of fully lipidated discoid particles ready to interact with LCAT. (See Sviridov et al., p. 1283)
