About the Cover
COVER:
Simplified cartoon of phospholipases A2 at the synapse.
Depolarization triggers release of glutamate, which in turn binds to the
N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor and increases calcium influx
into the postsynaptic neuron. Phospholipases A2 release arachidonic acid (AA),
docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and lyso-platelet-activating factor (lyso-PAF), the
precursor of platelet-activating factor. sPLA2, secretory phospholipase A2.
