About the Cover
COVER:
Current conception of nuclear structure. The majority of nuclear lipids
are in the nuclear envelope (NE), consisting of inner and outer nuclear
membranes (INM, ONM); ONM is continuous with smooth and rough endoplasmic
reticulum (ER). Nucleoplasmic compartments contain low concentrations of
lipids with important signaling functions. NE lumen, continuous with ER
lumen, is storage site for Ca2+.
Expansion shows a portion of INM containing
Na+/Ca2+ exchanger in close association with GM1 ganglioside.
Chro, chromatin; Heterochro, heterochromatin; H, histone; La, lamina; LA,
lamin A; NPC, nuclear pore complex.
