About the Cover

Cover Figure

COVER: The crystal structure of a mutant form of the adipocyte fatty acid binding protein was made to simulate the properties of a retinoic acid binding protein. The space filling representation of the molecular conformations indicate steric overlap between the lipid binding sites (OA1 and OA2 in blue) and the position of retinoic acid (RA in red), and account for some of the biochemical properties that were observed. In this -barrel protein, polypeptide segments connecting -strands may play an important role in selecting lipid type (e.g., EF-loop). (See Reese and Banaszak, p. 232.)
