Advanced plaque in the aorta of a rabbit fed cholesterol for 124 days and then put
back on a chow diet for 101 days before killing. Anitschkow calls attention to the
central necrotic lipid core containing needle-like crystals of cholesterol,
scattered calcium granules, groups of foam cells on either side of the core, and a
