About the Cover

COVER: Uptake of oxidized LDL (OxLDL) and aggregated OxLDL by human monocyte-derived macrophages. Macrophages were loaded for 1 h with Alexa488-dextran (500μg/well, molecular weight 10,000, green) and incubated for 4 h with either Alexa546-labeled OxLDL (20μg/ml, top, red) or Alexa546-labeled aggregated OxLDL (AggOxLDL, 20μg/ml, bottom, red). Exposure to OxLDL (top) induces macrophage injury, but aggregation of OxLDL (bottom) promotes phagocytosis of the cytotoxic lipoproteins and allows macrophages to escape cell death.
