About the Cover
COVER: Side chain oxidized oxysterols such as 24S-hydroxycholesterol (24S-OHC) and 27-hydroxycholesterol (27-OHC) are important
mediators of cell and tissue cholesterol homeostasis. 24S-OHC is formed in the brain and fluxes across the blood-brain barrier along a
concentration gradient. In contrast, 27-OHC is formed in virtually all tissues and enters the brain along a concentration gradient inverse
to that of 24S-OHC. Elimination of this oxysterol from the brain is achieved via a multistep pathway leading to the formation of a C27
steroidal acid (7α-OH-4-CA). (See Meaney et al., p. 944.)
