COVER: Desaturases consist of four functionally distinct subfamilies: First, Omega, Front-End, and Sphingolipid. Each branch includes four types of eukaryotic kingdoms, indicated by colored arcs. Black circles, distributed in the First subfamily, indicate sequences containing it in the C-terminal region, whereas gray circles, distributed in the Front-End subfamily, indicate sequences containing a cytochrome b5 domain in the N-terminal region. (See Hashimoto et al., p. 183.)
